IEDR reload times / nameserver update schedule

Edut : 2014 – the IEDR now updates their zones every 2 hours.

Seeing as it was a little hard to find on www.iedr.ie‘s FAQ page, I thought I would do a quick post for myself and perhaps for other people search “when does the IEDR update their domainservers“. On the page listed, it’s hidden on point #19,

” How long does it take to register a .ie domain name?”

Technically it’s called “server reload” and it happens 4 times a day for the IEDR, at 10am/12pm/5pm/10pm. Previously it used to be twice a day, as far as I can remember.

So if you came here via google or any other search engine, looking for this information, I hope you were helped by this.
Edit : as far as I can see, this page, in their quote

Please note that nameserver changes submitted after 4pm on Friday will not be processed until the following Monday, therefore please submit your hosting changes early to avoid delays.

This is no longer the case, as they are updated every day.

    1. Fair point Michele, is there any special infrastructure that would be needed for this ? I just wonder why it isn’t more frequent or live.

  1. What is the story with a Bank Holiday? I submitted 4 nameserver changes yesterday but they still haven’t updated.

I presume a Bank Holiday is the same as what late on Friday (above) used to be?

    1. Hi Mark, I would have thought they would change. As that should happen automatically, I doubt someone at the IEDR are pressing a button at the reload times (but you can never be sure 😉 )

  2. Reloads should be processed over a bank holiday without any issue.
Of course it depends how the update requests are being submitted – not all of the registrars are fully integrated over EPP with the registry ..

  3. It seems that the emails they send are a little in accurate. I registered a domain today, and the email they sent to me which said

Your domain will go live when the IE zone is next reloaded. This occurs at 10am, 12pm, 5pm and 10pm daily.

So they don’t seem to know what they do there.
