Real reviews of businesses ?
Posted on November 2, 2008, under daily life.
In my epic search today for some whole coffee beans (whole coffee beans doesn’t sound right) I came across this review for Cork Coffee Roasters which in my opinion stinks of coming from someone attached to the company. It goes something like this:
It was really good value too, and a great place of breakfast. Inside the café on Bridge Street it’s quite small, but nicely warm and homey. It’s pretty popular, with lots of locals coming in for their morning take-away coffee. All the beans used in the blends here are hand roasted in Cork, and a lot of the pastries on sale are made using only organic ingredients.
Maybe I am just too sensitive to totally positive reviews. It seems like it’s too overdone, what ever you business you have you will have good reviews, and not so good reviews, but you should not try to go out and blatentally try to game these review sites. Someone will see it, and possibly call you out. When looking at Amazon reviews for books and products, you can spot when they are coming from the Authod/someone attached to be product/etc.
And as for their “really good value”, I took a look at their site, for the prices of their beans which they charge from €30 for 1kg (which I can get it for 1/2 the price in Germany), I really wonder how someone could say that it was good value.
Anyone know where one can get some reasonably priced whole coffee beans ?

Oktoberfest Building gets underway
Posted on July 23, 2008, under daily life, Living in Germany, Theories.
Today there are just 61 days until the magical Oktoberfest 2008 starts. It’s time to drink beer and be merry with 110,000 other happily drunk people. I’ve gone for the past 5 years, and the magic is still there. In fact 2 years ago I had the great luck in meeting L there.

Here is a still from today taken from this webcam.
More strange emails
Posted on June 13, 2008, under daily life.
Yesterday the Irish got to vote on the Lisbon Treaty this was a nice 400 page document outlining new rules about the structure and voting rules in the EU. The Treaty was rejected by 53.4% to 46.6%. And some guy who said he was from France sent me an email complaining about the Irish people. I love getting email, it’s almost as good as getting actual post. But I do get some strange emails via the contact for my irish jobs website. So here’s the email

Interesting Emails
Posted on May 14, 2008, under daily life.
From time to time I get some interesting, random emails through the contact forms on my sites. The contact forms are a great way to avoid putting a public email address on a website, this will save you the hassle of getting SPAM by these email harvesters in the long run. Generally I aim to have one of these on all the websites, and just get it sent to my gmail address.
So yesterday I got a rather interesting one, asking about Premium Phone operators. The email came via my Black Dog site, which is the location I point people to when asking about web design.
Hi,
Someone told me to contact you in relation to employment as a adult phone
operator..Regards
K****
The email seemed serious enough, and she even included her phone number. I replied saying that I don’t do anything in that industry, and I asked who forwarded my details to her.
Bring on the Summer
Posted on May 5, 2008, under daily life, Living in Germany.
It’s funny how the weather can effect people, it effects their mood, their energy and probably other things too. The last time I posted , way back in March there was a bit of snow on the ground, and well now there is nothing but clear skies forecast for this week.

For the last few weekends the weather has been nice and warm, in or around the 20°C (65-70°F). And it’s kicked off the beer garden season. One nice beer garden in Munich is right on a lake in the middle of the English Gardens, the Seehaus (Lake House in German). It’s only about 10-15 minutes walk from the centre of Munich. Here is a picture (from briethe) looking across the lake and into the Seehaus Beer Garden.

This is one of the best ways to pass the time on a Sunday in the Sun.
Can-can-canburgers
Posted on February 17, 2008, under daily life, Living in Germany.
Late last month, I saw a great product on Gizmodo. Basically they are Cheeseburgers for campers, Cheeseburgers in a can or better called Canburgers. To cook these wonders you simply put the can in a pot of boiling water for 10 minutes and voilá, you have a nice warm burger. with all the trimmings. So I took myself off to Trekking Mahlzeiten (a great German company) and ordered 4. Over the weekend, I got the urge to try them out, after a few beers on the town with friends. Here are the results
Cooking Canburgers
So let’s see what’s in the can …
So you get a pot and put it into the boiling water
So after boiling it looked like this, funnily enough
It wasn’t that easy to get the burger out of the can. Here I am fighting with it, there were ring pulls at the top and at the bottom of the can.
